My vision is limited to that small glimpse of the world allowed by the view-finder. 75mm in this case.
Suddenly I feel something that hits my knee.
I must have I hit something while I was taking photos of the surroundings.
Looking down I noticed that, actually, it is something that hit me and not vice versa.
The thing is a little girl running around the main square of Siena, with her eyes closed.
I look around perplexed and her mother runs up to me asking if I was hurt.
I'm al good but I'm intrigued by the little girl.
"She recently discovered that one of her classmates has a degenerative disease so, over the years, her friend will become blind. So she's training to play with her. She says she wants to do everything with her eyes closed, so when her friend can't see anymore, they can play together and nothing will change." Explains the mum.
Empathy, walking in someone else's shoes, going beyond the differences: we can learn so much from this child.
For example, that sometimes, to look beyond, we need to close our eyes.
